Pratyhara–the heightening and withdrawing from our senses–is a catalyst to deep restoration and creates a stronger connection between our minds and bodies. When we remove distraction and physically restrict one of our sensory organs from doing its job, it is forced to rest. And given the connection the organ has to our brains, a portion of our brain rests. And when we rest, or restore, our minds slow down, our bodies relax and we experience more peace. Perhaps a little mental trickery, cutting off one of our senses to force it to restore, but hey, it works.

Twelve Days of Classes kicked off this week, for the first time ever, and we could not be more excited to share the vast range of yoga and instruction BFPY has to offer! With twelve straight days dedicated to gaining deeper knowledge about our various classes and instructors, a question comes to mind: is it most beneficial to yogis—creating a multidimensional practice by fashioning your yoga regimen with different classes, or focusing your efforts on becoming a master of one style?
If you’ve joined Maggie in class before, then you know she presses ‘play’ on a beat that sends you soaring into another world! There’s a sense of getting lost in the flow as you move from note to note and pose to pose. Gratitude. It’s an emotion, a sensation, a gift that manifests in a way which makes our hearts grow three times their own size. We can spend time listing off the many things and people we know to be grateful for in life like friends, family, our homes, our jobs, our food, but actually embodying gratitude in mind, body, and spirit is an endeavor that requires so much more. In order to bring the magic of gratitude to life, we must first allow love to fill our hearts and shine vibrantly from our souls, as gratitude can only grow in the presence of all-encompassing, genuine love.
Laval is bringing you that feel-good funk with this week’s Music Monday playlist! His music choices are as bright and groovy as he is, a feeling that you’ll find palpable every time he walks in the room. A yogi with such far-out vibes is the perfect start to your holiday, so be sure to kick off Thanksgiving Day with Laval’s 8am Early Bird Vinyasa!
The word boundary coins an air of restraint or limitation, which is partially what makes defining them so intimidating, but when we create healthy boundaries around the way we exist and interact with ourselves, our people, and the life we are blessed to live, we make space for our spirit to flourish.
