Life is hard. Work, friends, family, dinners, drinks, coffee dates…the list goes on forever. Sometimes it is hard to make time to get your booty out of the house and get to the yoga studio for a class.

Space

There are days that no matter how hard you try, you can’t seem to make it out of your “at home” yoga pants and in to your actual “yoga class pants”.

There is good news for those mornings, days or nights when leaving your roost is impossible. You can make a home yoga space with just a few little additions in a quiet corner of your house.

One of the best things about yoga is that you can practice it nearly everywhere. Once you know a few basic postures or meditations, you can put your mat down anywhere and create space for your body and your mind.

We recommend starting with a meditation or in a restful child’s pose to get your breath and mind ready to practice. You can then make your way through some Sun A’s, Sun B’s and any favorite balance or restorative poses.

All you need to do is find a quiet room or corner in your home with a flat surface for your mat. A room with natural light is always helpful, but fun lighting or lamps can be great additions if natural light is hard to come by. There are a million different ways to make the space your own after you set your mat down. You can add candles, incense, pillows or bolsters. Perhaps a Buddha statue or beautiful painting helps you focus and center your thoughts. Plants and natural elements such as stones, branches or sand can also help ease your mind and bring balance into the space.

We could go on forever telling you the different ways to set up and create your at home space but recommend you look around the internet for more fun ideas and inspiration.

No matter how busy life gets, the most important thing is taking care of YOU. Whether that means a few moments of mediation in the morning/before bed or a home practice with some breathing and stretching in your space. You can’t take care of others unless you are taking care of yourself!
